Held By Strings

The knots are strong, they won’t let go

No matter how much I pull and plead

And tears pour out of my eyes

But nobody can see them but me

A smile is plastered on to my face

Along with crystal blue eyes filled with joy

Rosy cheeks and dimples

And of course the curly hair bouncing happily

But behind this mask lies the real me, waiting,

To be free from their grasp, and run away for good

To feel the sun’s warmth surrounding me

To see the stars in the night sky twinkle and smile

But no, that isn’t possible

For I was being held with the strings

The strings that decided whether I laugh or cry

The strings that influence my whole life as a puppet

No one even knows who I really am,

And there are so many people like me

Being led by someone in the shadows

Attached to invisible strings, being controlled
