My Body Tells A Story
My Body Tells A Story
Some say they know,
Not of my abuse.
I tell them that my smile
Is no excuse.
If you look closely you'll
See my scars,
Marks on my face
He did yes mar.
Not just physical but
Even mental pain,
At times had me feeling
Myself insane.
He took from me
Everything I had,
Even our baby’s life
Which was so sad.
At one point he almost
Took my life.
After my baby’s death,
I gave him the knife.
I’m reminded of this each
And every single day,
I look to my face and
The stories it can say.
A story from each and
Every scar and mark,
Above my right eye;
Left me in the dark.
Under it was where
He said I was wrong,
Top my head I sang the
Wrong words to a song.
Above my left eyebrow was
When he did cheat,
Under it was when he
Was in the streets.
My bottom lip because
He said, I shouldn’t pout.
Broken jaw the day,
I found him out.
A broken nose plus
Lost two teeth,
Doubting him and on
My chin underneath.
A broken eye socket
When I tried to run.
Pierced ears split when
I bathed in the sun.
14 staples atop my forehead
When I didn’t believe.
6 broken bones because
I tried to leave.
Ribs broken because I
Didn’t need a friend.
Stories continued until
To prison him, I did send.
