Silver Years

 

If ever you find yourself alone

when your knees

 will ache and groan,

when your eyes

 are weak and bleary

and your body

 old and weary,

will you reach out

for this trembling hand

helping me help you

 to walk and stand

with toothless smiles

 on wrinkled faces,

 brighten the day

 helping each other

 to smoothen aches away?

What the morrow brings

 I know not! but I’d like to

 hold on to your bony fingers, love,

when life ebbs away.
