Clean Slate

For once on an orange-crimson shore
Just as the fireball adorned
Its soft yellow attire with that something more
Of a cherry red hat and a scarf it once owned; there stood the candle flame.

Did you ever wish for a singular solitary moment
That with the burning flare it could also eat up the nagging satire?

Past those hours of bitter regrets
Dark nights and poor justifications
Did you yearn for some turn backs
For better or worse, to have some paybacks?

Was it you who wondered out aloud into the night
If ‘New beginnings’ was a fairytale told to shed the plight?
And if not, why didn’t anyone stand up and fight
For a second yesterday than a first today to go back for.

Can’t the world forgive your silliness for just this once
And not make you suffer the tinge of the shady past tense?

Did you ever wish for a clean slate all over
That would lend you a helping hand with a mate?
