A Harlot's Son

A Harlot's Son

I stood before the office cabin,

Anxious and stressed

My first job interview ever...

"Impressive, Remarkable CV " The interviewer finally said.

"You are the man for the job!" He said,

"Well equipped in every sense."

The office peon walked in at the moment with a cup on a tray in his hand.

He looked at me and gaped for long

Then his gaze turned to an indignant one.

"One word with you sir." He said to the interviewer "Excuse me, please." He said

Though angry and irritated my interviewer walked away

I stood there aghast, alarmed and perplexed.

I wondered what went between them

And why the peon gave me a dirty stare?

Quite disturbed, after a few moments, the boss returned,

And stared dumbfounded at my face!

"I am sorry Mr... Mr..."

He hesitated "What was your name you said?"

"Kaushik Vaidehi is my name, sir,

A name one would never forget!"

"Yes, indeed Mr.Vaidehi- a unique name indeed.

"But our post is no longer vacant, you see, You should try elsewhere !"

"But you just started my interview sir, "I interfered vehemently.

"No arguments!" He said and dismissed me disdainfully.

I wanted an answer to my question

And was adamant not to move out

He held me by my collar and treated me like dirt.

"Our reputation is more important than hiring such men ."

"Such men? What do you mean ?"

I protested with vehemence

"I am sorry but you are the son of a whore .. a stigma on society!"

But that is not how I built my Identity.

I wanted to redefine myself.

No one listened. No one cared.

I cried and protested in pain.

Two hired men walked into the cabin

And dragged me out from there

I sat shattered on the stairs

A crestfallen man, defaced.

What was my fault? a Harlot's son!

I Gathered all my certificates and my massacred dreams.

I will build my identity one day- I promise

I will build the empire of my dreams.
