Wonder why I never spoke?

Of the fears I suffered

Within me sealed and covered

Borne out of insecurities

Child born out of wedlock 

Life shrouded in a cloak

What was my fault?

I never asked to be born

Life pages seemed torn

Searching for the man

Who abandoned my mother 

And me by default

I feared more and more

If he got to know

If his parents said no

To our marriage plans

Under consideration

I knew would create a furore 

But how could I live with this lie?

So I confessed to him 

One day on a whim

I know not who my father is

He never battered even an eyelid

Married me; the good guy.
