Memories

Memories

I walked slowly on a gloomy little bridge,

It was cold and dark,

No life around,

No moon to shine,

Just me and my haunting memories.

I lost her today,

She just slipped from my hands,

Before I could behold the life in her eyes,

Or think of a speech to say goodbye,

She left.

She left me alone.

We used to come on this bridge all the time,

Held hands together and shyly smiled,

I was always lost in her laughter,

There was so much innocence in her eyes.

I looked in front of me,

On the other side of the bridge,

It was the dark forest,

I shivered.

Sometimes we used to come on this bridge,

Just to admire the stars in the sky,

Away from the world of fake pleasures,

We came here to enjoy our lives.

My love, my darling,

She was beautiful,

And all our dreams were coming true.

Suddenly I heard laughter behind me,

I recognised the voice,

In horror I turned back and saw,

My love and I,

Holding hands and laughing together,

My eyes teared up,

As I saw myself kissing her face,

Lost in the smell of her hair,

And she embracing my broken self.

And then they faded.

Again, I heard a voice on the side,

Saw an aged couple this time,

Lost in the eyes of each other,

Whispering silently the words of good-bye.

They too faded and again I saw,

Two children chasing after a butterfly,

And then the lonely bridge,

Slowly grew into a memory lane,

I saw lovers embracing in the moment,

And brothers enjoying the time of their lives,

I saw parents holding hands of their children,

And children crying on their laps,

Some young, some old and some in between,

All fades away in the movement of time.

So many lives suddenly surrounded me,

And all of that was beholden by the bridge,

In passing second of ever fading time,

The immortal was the memories.

The bridge again was left alone,

As everyone slowly faded away,

But the cold was now replaced,

The warmth of love was present.

The sky was slowly turning blue,

And in front I could see,

The glowing orange sun smiling towards me,

In between the dark forest now I could see,

A twisted path of life.

I wiped off my tears,

Maybe memories is all we have here,

And someday our times will fade away too,

Until then, I will find my love,

In the innocence of the child she died giving birth.
