'What is retirement'?

A friend asked me,

'I'm still cooking, cleaning,

Not a single moment free,

Running errands for the family.

You painted a picture so rosy;

All hogwash, you fooled me'

I turned around, had this to say...

"Find your hidden passion

On back burner put away.

Light is now on full flame

Don't let it simmer each day

If remains uncooked, 

You're to blame

For the gnawing pain

Season it with flavors 

So strong

Others will be drawn

Demanding more

What never before 

Got chance to grow

Retirement my friend 

Is in enjoying what 

Pleases you most

May run concurrently

With responsibilities 

Cannot ignore

Carve out that time,

From your busy life

And you'll find retirement 

Can be fine-tuned

Like an old violin revived

Passions played with

New musical notes
