A Promise Made
A Promise Made
One day, I promise,
One day, I will be able to love you
Wholly, truly, and sincerely,
As you should have been loved.
The days you spent under my abuse,
Cowering at the words I often threw at you,
I wish I could erase them;
But it isn't possible.
For all the pain I put you through,
For the hell I had you imprisoned in,
Even if I were to get on my skinned knees
And beg at your feet for forgiveness,
I deserve none.
Since my words can be dismissed
As musings to be thrown to the wind,
I will show you through my actions
That I have truly changed for good.
That I can finally learn to love you for good.
Thus, I say to my reflection,
Take me up on my vow,
I swear to honor, to love, and to protect you,
As you so rightly deserve.
