I didn't want to leave Rocket alone what if he woke up and was in pain or scared that the crazy man would attack him again, my parents let me be once they found out I wasn't going to budge. My mother sat with me for a few hours while my father finished changing all the door locks and installing the new security system.

It's turning dark now I see the sun setting outside the barn doors but I still don't move not until my father comes walking back in telling us that it was time to go inside.

"I can't leave him in here, daddy-" I started to refuse, but his hard voice cut me off.

"No. I don't want to hear it. Sweetheart, I know you don't want to leave him but I can't let you stay out here all night. I'm going to lock the barn up, I have a padlock so unless the fuckers climb into the windows on the second floor of this barn he won't be coming back in here tonight okay? Honey, I can't let you stay out here." He whispers before he bends down and tugs at my arm, pulling me to my feet. "You heard the vet Rockets going to be fine. You did your job in helping him, but now as your father, it's my job to get you inside so you can rest, let's go"

"Rocket I'll be back in the morning to check on you boy I promise" I call loudly to him hoping that in the state he is in, he can still hear me.

"Come on, dear. It's late and I didn't start supper but I'll round up something we didn't eat lunch" my momma whispered as she took me from my dad's arms and they both led me out of the barn inside the house after my dad made sure the padlock was secure on the barn door.

Hopefully, that will keep my boy safe tonight hopefully unknown will be at least somewhat scared of the cops now.

After we got inside the house I went to take a shower I needed to wash Rocket's blood off of me, my father had taken off his shirt before the vet had arrived and given me his as I was only in my jeans and bra at the time, nothing thinking of the state I was dressed in just too focused on saving Rocket.

Once I was out of the shower, I went into the living room and sat down next to my daddy. He didn't have the TV on and that's when you know something is weighing on his mind and I bet you it's the situation I'm in. He's scared of something happening to me and he looks dog freaking tired.

"Daddy, I'll stay up tonight if you're tired. I'll make sure we are safe-" I whispered out making sure I was talking low enough that my mother couldn't hear me but my father raises his hand cutting me off.

"No. It's my job to protect you, not the other way around. I'm fine. The locks and the new system will do the job, I just want to make a sure baby" he grunts before picking up the remote and turning on the TV.

I guess that conversation is over.

My mother made us Tomato soup and grilled cheese for supper, we normally would sit at the table but tonight we are all squeezed on the couch not caring that we are basically knocking elbows as we eat. Just happy to be together and safe.

I really can't wait to see Ryder, I have missed him so much and it was messing with my head being away from him and not talking after we left things so horrible. I'm glad that his coming, I would not have asked him too not when I know he was busy with his business but I'm also happy that he didn't take no for an answer for once in our relationship I'm happy that my boyfriend is the bossy type.

Shit.

I think I forgot to tell my parents Ryder was coming.

Crap on a stick.

Between the cops and Rocket, I just didn't think.

Before taking another bite of my grilled cheese, I cleared my throat and lean back against the couch so I could watch both of their reactions.

"You remember my boyfriend Ryder I told yall about? I'm sorry I had forgotten to mention this morning after finding Rocket like that but his coming. He didn't want me to be here alone without him. He's on a plane right now and said he will be landing in the morning."

I never bought a boy home before and that's sad to say, I'm almost 24 but I was just never into boys well not into having boyfriends growing up I was more than happy to spend my days outside with the animals and let's face it taming Rocket down was no freaking picnic.

"He sounds like a sweet young man" my momma squealed like a freaking pig, oh my god just don't let her start talking about grandchildren.

"Hmm. He allowed my daughter to travel all the way home alone while having someone dangerous after her. He doesn't sound so sweet to me" my dad grunts before my mother leaned over and popped him on the arm. "Hush! You don't know that!"

"It's true dad. Ryder didn't know I was coming here. We kinda got into a little argument about me keeping unknown a secret." I, murmur. I didn't want to tell them it was a big fight because I know my daddy is extremely overprotective and I don't want him to judge Ryder already not when the fight was my fault. Ryder has been the perfect boyfriend before that fight happened. He was just to his words about always having time for me even when he was busy.

"You were scared! He should know that!" He grunts out again, looking annoyed that I'm defending Ryder.

Goodness.

"He knew that daddy, but let's face it, I'm in danger. I am. You and mom are too. This is a dangerous situation and I know you. I know you weren't happy that I didn't tell you because you love me and I'm your daughter. Ryder loves me to dad he does and has been scared for me the past month. He has been doing all that he can to keep me safe. He had my apartment door locks changed twice, he put cameras around my door and my apartment." I ranted out completely understanding my dad's anger towards Ryder as a father, but it's about more than Ryder being pissed for a bit that I have been lying to him.

"See. He is a good man and you won't say anything to embarrass me inside our home. You're going to give him a chance. What if I lied to you about something dangerous? Would you have taken it happily? After 35 years of marriage, I know you. You would have blown the barn down with your rage and you ain't fixing to tell me any differently" my mother fusses at my father and I grin inside my head happily to have her on my side.

"This isn't fair. Yall two always gang up against me" He grumbled.

"I love you daddy. I promise once you meet Ryder you're going to understand what I'm saying." I whispered, leaning over and kissing his cheek softly. He huffs out a breath leaning his cheek against my mouth before he nods.
