Timmy had always liked to go to beach, at least since his parents allowed him to go alone to the sea-side. He preferred to be alone on the beach to see the tides of the sea. Sometimes he allowed the water to touch his feet. Yet as instructed by his parents, he never went very close to the water.

Sometimes he sneaked out of his house in the afternoon when the beach was virtually deserted. He would have liked to come during night, but he was not allowed to do that. It was very risky also as sea was more violent during nights. Of course, it was also much easier to sneak out during the day.

He had come to the beach when sun was at its apex, yet being winter it was not very hot. There were not many people on the beach, so he had relatively secluded corner to himself. He stared at sea for some time as was his habit. Then he started playing with sand. He was focussing on making a house by piling up wet sand on his foot, when he heard some sound.

He raised his eyes and looked towards sea from where the sound was coming. He could not see anything. Sea was very calm at that time. Just then he noticed some ripples in the water. It was not a regular wave, but ripples at one place. He wondered what had caused ripples in the water.

He saw head of a beautiful woman emerge on top of water. ‘What was this woman doing under the water?’ It did not look like as if she was drowning. Rather she seemed to be enjoying herself. She had not yet noticed the presence of Timmy. She started swimming in the water, splashing water all around.

Timmy stared at the woman mesmerised. She was very beautiful. ‘Was she the sea fairy about whom he had read in some comic book?’ She appeared to be swimming without much effort as if she was walking in her drawing room. He wondered if he could have body like her which would allow him to swim in deep water.

Just then he noticed that while half of her body was human, instead of legs she had a lower body of a fish. Timmy was elated to have seen a fairy. He was sure nobody in among his family and friends had the fortune of having seen a fairy.

As he was staring at the half-woman half-fish girl, the girl looked up and saw him staring at him. When she saw that it was only a small boy, she smiled and waved towards him. Timmy waved back. He kept on waving at her. After some time, he realised that the girl had disappeared, however, he had failed to notice when she disappeared.

He was very happy while walking back to his house. Then he started wondering if anyone will believe him. Perhaps his younger sister, who was eight, might believe him.
