The Missed Examination

I was doing B.Tech in Computer Science from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. My class teacher often said this statement during lectures,"Students, when you are back home in the evening, study your books thoroughly. There are 3 crucial rules of student life. Number one is whatever I teach you today, back home, study that concept without missing because whatever I am going to teach you tomorrow, it is the extension of what I taught you today.Number two,  If you don't study daily, you will not be able to connect the links & your understanding will be zero. And number three, as a result, you will score zero in semester examination. So just study daily."

Listening to him some student asked in a funny way, "But Sir, going back home we have many other things to do. You see we have to finish assignments & homework. We feel so tired you see. And Sir, students must be given time to relax and enjoy, otherwise they will die because of burden of studies." All the students started laughing along with my teacher. My teacher laughingly said, "Ok, Just don't die but always remember that it is your life. As long as you are in college, I will always support you, all professors will support you. If you do some mistake due to lack of knowledge, we will guide you proverly.

But once you become a working professional, nobody will be your guide. Everyone will be a competitor. And they will be looking for you to make mistakes so that they can take advantage of that & put you down. So before reaching that stage, make yourself perfect in every manner."

Everyone was happy listening to my teacher. From that day onwards I started studying daily. Going back home I studied thoroughly. Because of this daily habit, I started understanding my subjects more elaborately & my confidence also increased. Not only this I could actually feel a positive change in my personality. But sometimes life takes a very bad turn. Similar situation happened with me.

My first semester date sheet was out & first paper was Chemistry. After that there was 3 days gap in next paper. I started studying Chemistry very sincerely. As I used to study regularly during classes, I did not find much difficulty studying. On the day of examination, as I sat in the examination hall & opened up my question paper, I was shocked. It was "Communication Skills" paper. Taking permission of the examiner I rushed towards the notice board to clarify the date-sheet. It was Communication Skills examination that day & just below it, Chemistry was written. Immediately I understood that just due to an oversight, I confused between the two C's. But nothing was in my hand now.

I came back to the examination room & took my seat. For few minutes I observed the question paper, all sections, every question. After that I closed my eyes for 10 minutes, thought something & started answering the questions. The examination ending bell rang after 3 hours & I submitted my answer sheet. Going back home my parents asked, "How was your paper?". I said,"Very fine" & went to my room & slept.

After few months, the results were declared. I scored 88 out of 100 in Communication Skills. Some of my close friends were knowing that I was confused regarding datesheet. They all came to my home & asked, "Hey Piyush, how did you score so good man. We know you forgot the datesheet. 88 out of 100, how is it possible?"

Very politely I said, "It is possible friends. If you follow instructions of your professors thoroughly, it is 100% possible. Do you remember what our professors told us during regular classes. Study daily. Don't study to qualify the semester but study daily to develop your knowledge. If you have deep knowledge of the subjects, you can qualify any examination.

I just did what my teachers said. It is all because of their blessings, that I scored so well even in this situation that I forgot the datesheet."

My friends said, "You are right Piyush. If a person like you, who forgot the datesheet, can score so high, just by regular studies, why can't we?"

I looked at my friends & said, "It is compliment or a comment?" Everyone started laughing loudly. 

That day we truly realised what our teachers used to say & from that day onwards, we all started studying regularly.
