A long time ago in Mumbai, there lived a poor priest with his wife, old mother, and children. They were a pious family. He performed prayers to the Lord with all faith. Some days, he could barely make both ends meet. Yet he did not complain about his situation. He lived a simple happy life.

Every morning, the priest woke up early and after his bath, performed his prayers at home, and rushed to the temple to complete his priestly duties. His mellifluous voice carried away every other devotee to God’s own kingdom. His caring nature and sweet words bestowed strength to those coming to the temple in grief. He shared his daily earnings with the beggars. His devotion to God was as strong as a rock pillar. His good nature gave him a peaceful sleep every night.

As things moved on, one night, God appeared in his dream and said, “Son, you have been serving Me honestly so far. I have been living with you peacefully. But now, I have to take leave of you for certain untold reasons. Ask for a boon and I shall grant it.” Saying so, God disappeared.

The priest woke up immediately and understood it to be a dream. Still, he kept pondering over it. The next morning, he narrated the dream to his wife and mother. His wife suggested a happy life, both physically and financially. But his old mother said, “Gold and riches are materialistic. Do not crave for them. When God is with us, we do not have any quarrels or difficulties. We have been leading a peaceful life. So ask Him to grant you a peaceful life.” The simple priest was happy with the reply and waited for his chance to convey it to God.

The same night God appeared again in the priest’s dream. He asked, ” Son, tell Me your want.”

The priest replied, “God, please grant us a peaceful life.”

And lo, the Lord uttered, “Peace is what I love and peaceful home with no quarrels is where I live. Do not worry, I shall never leave you.”
