Success in Life

Manoj came back home late in the evening. There was a pregnant she-dog at the door, looking at him expectantly. She appeared to be hungry. He went inside and got busy in the house. He was not in good mood today. He had appeared in a promotion interview that day and the interview had not gone as per his expectations. There was little chance of his succeeding in the interview.

After some time, he opened his front door. The she-dog was still there. Hunger was visible in her eyes. This time he could not ignore its pleading eyes. He went inside and brought some food for it. The food was swallowed by her immediately. Perhaps she was very hungry. Satisfied she looked at him with what appeared to him to be thankful eyes.

This became a routine for the next few days. He fed the she-dog every evening after coming back from the office.

One day he came back from the office in a good mood. Although he had thought that his interview had not gone well, he had passed. This was a pleasant surprise for him. Success had come to him when he least expected it.

As he was nearing his house, he saw that she-dog had delivered a litter of small pups in the adjacent vacant plot. They were of different colors. He was happy that he had contributed towards the health of the she-dog. It was like having the birth of a child in the family.

He built a small cardboard shed for the mother and her pups. The mother immediately took all the pups inside and started feeding them.

He wondered which of his successes was bigger.

Perhaps feeding the she-dog had brought him luck.
