Within the Four Walls of Her Heart

Finally, Paru had a phenomenal date. They were physically, emotionally, and mentally attracted, and it was mutual. She knew for sure, because he said it.

Shiv felt lucky to have met her. He was excited about her and imagined a future together. He could talk about anything with her. He wished to marry her and have kids.

The next morning, lying in bed covered in white blankets and still on an absolute high, Paru texted her best friend saying, “This is IT.” She didn’t realize she was making a classic mistake that would be hard to swallow, and could have been avoided. Her feelings from the night before didn’t necessarily mean the same to him as they did to her.

Paru never imagined the ghosting that was in store, the slow fading away after just a few weeks. Her fantasy date clouded her thinking about what the man might actually want from the relationship in the long term.

That evening before, Shiv had held her hands, looked deeply into her eyes, and whispered that she had the most beautiful lips he had ever seen. He said they were an amazing mix of adorable and sexy together. Shiv had been honest when he confessed he had never encountered such a combination of brains, beauty, and passion in his whole life. He was literally blown away by her.

But the wind must have been blowing too hard, because days later, he was nowhere to be found. Paru became anxious, worried, and curious about how he could just disappear. She started assuming things, becoming more unsettled by the day. She didn’t realize this had happened to women all over the world, hundreds, thousands of times.

Paru was sure her relationship with Shiv was not temporary. She felt it was truly special, and she wondered what could have caused this sharp turnaround. She kept recalling her conversations with him, questioning if she had said something wrong that turned him off. Was he making the whole thing up? How can anyone put up such a convincing act?

What Paru failed to understand was that this could happen at any time. It wasn’t always deliberate, sometimes men are simply like that. That’s why it doesn’t matter what a guy says or does on a date. What really matters is what he does after those lovely meetings.

Paru believed Shiv was serious with her. After all, he had called the next day, planned subsequent meetings, kept evenings and weekends free for her, and behaved just like a man who was “all in.” She truly believed Shiv was her man, her future. After all, when men are really into you, they don’t just talk, they act.

And yet, suddenly, none of that mattered. Even though he’d had the best time of his life, Shiv left her hanging for a week without making plans to see her again. Paru didn’t see it coming. She went on a roller coaster of emotions, her hopes and dreams crashing down. Nothing could lessen her pain. She always felt he was there for the whole ride of her life, until he wasn’t.

She would look in the mirror and shout, “What the hell was he thinking?” Was Shiv a con artist? An opportunist? Someone who preyed on vulnerable women like her?

Meanwhile, Shiv sat by the beach, staring at the waves, his heart heavy and mind confused. He hadn’t just spent time with her for the thrill of the chase or to get bored and move on. It wasn’t that simple for him either. He truly had strong feelings for Paru. But her overwhelming love and possessiveness startled him. He felt suffocated, and so he decided to make a quick and surprising exit from a relationship he had once wanted to build with care.

Shiv kept telling himself he wasn’t a liar, player, or jerk. But deep inside, there were things Paru could never imagine going on beneath the surface.

He had been the first to dive headlong into her affection. He had plunged into an exciting, passionate relationship without truly knowing her. After a few months, he realized he had made a mistake. He hated hurting her, but he also hated that he was so poor at assessing compatibility. He knew he had to slow down, turn a new leaf, and make better decisions.

Paru knew in her heart that Shiv was a good man. But why then did he baffle her with hurtful actions, destroying their relationship while being so present in the moment? As days passed, she realized her dreams of marrying him or living forever with him were gone. Even though he had once told her she was beautiful inside and out, while holding her hands and gazing into her eyes, it all felt hollow now.

Shiv asked himself in the mirror, “Did I really like her?” His own voice answered: Yes, absolutely! But he also admitted he hadn’t thought long term with her once he understood himself better. He was just being honest with himself, though that honesty was devastating to her.

For women like Paru, things were different. She would never compliment a man if she didn’t mean it. She would never sleep with him if she didn’t care deeply. She would never bring up a future unless she felt he was her Mr. Right. But Shiv, like many men, had been swept up in the moment, moments that didn’t always predict their future feelings.

Paru closed her eyes, unable to bear the pain. Tears flowed, for she had invested not only time and money, but her emotions in a man she expected to approach love as she did, to reciprocate in the same way always. That mismatch was the root of her suffering. She felt continuously disappointed, like a victim, and concluded she had no control over her love life.

Then, one day, she opened her eyes, wiped her tears, slipped into her favorite blue jeans and red top, put on her bright red lipstick, and looked in the mirror. She gave herself a big, radiant smile.

She decided she was not going to let her happiness be controlled by the emotions of a relationship that never truly existed. She was going to be the master of her destiny.

And with that realization, she could finally smile again. She understood there is no correlation between what a man says when he is in love and what he feels once the fire fades. Men might resist this truth, but truth remains. Accepting that men operate differently from women, and using that knowledge to her advantage, gave her strength. She accepted it and chose to move on. It didn’t mean she would stay alone forever. She believed she would one day find her Prince Charming.

In every relationship, a few pauses to reflect and cherish, beyond the first few interactions, are essential for something lasting. Getting carried away by the rush of the first connection almost always ends in disappointment. Real love needs time, depth, and truth.

Paru learned this lesson the hard way: what to say, and what not to say, in those fragile first days of a relationship, and the importance of understanding quickly and firmly a man’s real intentions. A woman must trust her instincts and intuition, which always give signals whether she is in a casual fling or with someone seeking something serious.

She also learned another vital truth: if someone cannot step up as a lifelong companion, they must gracefully exit your life, leaving you free to move on. Replay the romantic words no more. Stop the guilt. Don’t hunt for the exact moment he turned away. The biggest gift a woman can give herself is peace.

A woman’s intuition is powerful enough to decode a man’s confusing signals. It doesn’t mean he is bad, it simply means he doesn’t know what he wants.

But Paru knew what she wanted: a man who would want a future with her. And to ensure she didn’t settle for less, she chose to move on.
