Art is the only field in the whole world in which one can be motivated by anything and it is a universal fact that there is Art in everything in this world.

Chuli is the name of a community whose physical appearance could be the most beautiful thing you have ever come across. For over 1000 years, the forests of the southern part of our country have been the home to this clan.

The Chuli people are among the most distinctive of the hill tribes in this mountainous region. Their hairstyle, how they knit their hats from their own hair which they wear during war historically. The degree of the fearsome of the warrior is directly proportional to the size of their Hat. The larger the size of the Hat, the more brave the warrior is considered to be.

Approximately, it takes six months to grow enough amounts of hairs out of their own bodies to form the wig, which they keep for their whole life. The visual image is the strongest medium to connect with the people and is the conceptual reason behind this activity.

Pig Tusks, Leaves, and parrot feathers are the primary aesthetic accessories, the men of this clan used to wear to adorn themselves, the intention behind is to look like the Male peacock(No need to tell that Male Peacock is the most elaborately beautiful bird in the world).

This elaborate costuming is further completed by their collection of feathers, accumulated over the years by them from Birds Of Paradise.

The combination of these men bringing out the fiercest warriors and also the most beautiful men speak about their passion for Bravery and creating compositions with creativity through their bodies.

The image of these people while adorning themselves gives you the idea of How can one be very Beautiful which is already complex to the amount that even the complexity of nature around them needs to “climb a mountain” when they stood face to face with each other. This can be arguably the most Beautiful and soothing picture for your eyes which you can save in the primary data storage department of your Brain.

In other words, these people do not dress up for tourists or any other external or materialistic factors but THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE.

Their everyday aesthetic accessories include replete Lip Disc, pierce ears and most important Scarification. The Lip Disc started during the slavery era of this clan. When the traders came into this area, to protect their women from these people, they came up with this idea and started this practice. This makes them look Disfigured and grotesque and now with time, it has become a sign of their beauty and also identification in some sense. The type of wood and clay they use for this activity not only helps the lower lip heal in no time but also makes it pliable.

This culturally vast clan is incomplete without the blessings of their Fortune Tellers. They live at the extreme end of the valley which starts with Dark, Mysterious dark energy around all over the place. Three to four Huts are there and two chuli Men Guarding their Holy bowl of Receptacle full of skulls. The significance of this receptacle which is half Bury in the ground is to communicate with their ancestors.

In the Huts, the dead bodies of their ancestors are wrapped in a piece of Leaf-cloth which has the natural characteristics to preserve the dead bodies for hundreds of years.

Before going to war, whether it is an inter-clan war or an Enemy fight, it is a ritual which the fighter performs to get mental peace through the blessings of their ancestors. The fighters talk to skulls and it depends on individual individual that they can choose either to verbally ask about their perplexities rushing swiftly in their mind and Heart. Or they can do it mentally connecting with their ancestors and receiving the answers.

In the times of Utmost pain, be it Physical or emotional in nature, they took permission from the fortune tellers and keep these head skulls close to their Hearts and something through the medium of dream comes through to them.

The change was/is coming almost everywhere but according to the people of this clan, it is a metaphor for an uncertain future.

The routine life activities of these people start with taking a bath in the morning in a river which starts from the mountains. It is very cool, clear and refreshing in nature, after bathing they apply a significant amount of clay on their bodies.

The two primary reasons behind this are to minimize the effects of mosquitos, flies and other poisonous insects in the jungle and second the protection of their body from the direct exposure of sunlight and as time passes during the day, what could be considered just “a smear of clay” becomes their adornment.

Without disrespecting any of the artworks from the modern worlds art composition, either from Pablo Ruiz Picasso or be painting of Mona Lisa, I think it is an alarming time, not only in the interest solely of “Art” but to take the world on a more pleasing and delightful path, we should know and learn the traditional cultures and primitive art and if possible, try to knit them with modern arts and composition.

Lastly, I want to congratulate Draupadi Murmu Ji for taking the oath as the 15th president of our country. More and more power to her.
