Forest That Breathes

Scene 1 Camping Plan

Cold and foggy winter night, dusty road through a dense forest and a over speeding car. Loud sound of song playing in the car. A group of 5 friends going for a lifetime adventure at the last day of their college. John was behind the steering wheel while Chris was occupying the front seat right next to him. On the back seat were Bella, Ellie and Hannah repeating the song loudly. Everyone in the car was boozed-up. And suddenly the car lost it's control and hit the tree with a loud screech sound. Everybody was scared and hurt. John got out of the car to check the situation and ended up finding a deflated tyre.

John kicked the tyre.

John-‘Damn this tyre.’

Whisper from behind-‘What happened John’.

John cold and scared turned back-‘What the heck Chris, you scared the hell out of me’.

Chris laughing-‘what happened to The Great Brave John’

Bella came out of the car.

Bella-‘What is happening here, Why are you laughing Chris

Chris-‘Oh nothing just an inflated tyre, but you really have to see the face of The Great Brave John’.

Chris again started laughing. Till then both Ellie and Hannah joined them.

Ellie-‘Just shut up Chris, we have got a situation here and you are doing pranks’.

Hannah-‘She is right Chris, we are in the middle of nowhere don't you realize the seriousness of situation’

Chris-‘Woah woah woah, cool down ladies there is a Stepney in the car.’

John-‘I am going to change the tyre, Chris come and help me.’

John and Chris went to change the tyre mean while all girls wait outside the car.

John and Chris got busy in changing tyre while Bella, Ellie and Hannah started checking out the surrounding.

Ellie-‘Damn there is nothing around us except forest’.

Hannah panickingly-‘What if car don't repair? What if got stuck here?’

Bella-‘Hold ur horses Hannah. Nothing such thing is going to happen. We have a Stepney. ’

Ellie-‘Bella is right Hannah. John and Chris know their job. Car will be repaired in no time. ’

Hanna-‘I think you are right, I am just over reacting. ’

Ellie-‘Yes, you are sweetheart, now enjoy the beauty of forest. ’

Bella-‘Ellie is right we don't get to see beauty of forest at night everyday, so just enjoy the moment. ’

Hannah not showing but still panicking

John calling from behind-‘Common ladies back to the car, we are all good to go. ’

Ellie-‘See Hannah, we told you. ’

Hannah a little bit relaxed-‘yeah, Now let's get back to car before they leave us in the middle of the forest. ’

Bella, Ellie and Hannah laughing. 

Chris-‘what happened ladies? Reason for so much excitement.’

Ellie-‘Just some ladies thing. Not of your interest hunk. ’

Chris-‘Did you just call me hunk. Oh! My secret admirer. ’

Ellie-‘In your dreams baby. ’

Bella-‘ You have no chance there Chris’

Everyone starts laughing. 

John calling-‘Common girls save the rest for later, We have lots of time together. Common get in the car already this damn tyre wasted lots of our time.’

Everyone heads towards the car.

Car roars and heads towards it's destination.

   Scene 2 WoodRest Mansion

After few miles John takes a right turn on a narrow dusty road. 

Bella-‘John why you took the right turn this road is too deserted to lead anywhere. ’

John-‘Oh don't worry I am following the google map. There is no chance of any mistake.Our destination is just few miles away from here. ’

Chris sarcastically-‘Are you afraid Bella? ’

Bella in anger-‘Afraid of what, I am here with you and nothing could be more scary than that.’

Chris-‘Woah, Woah.! Cool down buddy I am just kidding. Why so serious? ’

Bella and Chris were arguing when John stops the car in front of a big mansion. 

The mansion from its structure was looking that it's from Victorian era. It's old but beautiful. 

Ellie-‘Is this the place where we will be staying. ’

John-‘Yes, Only handful of people visits to this place so this place is never ever crowded. And it's surrounded by forest so it's a good place for camping. We will have a good time here. ’

Hannah-‘Is it safe to stay here. It's not giving a good vibe to me. ’

Chris interrupted-‘Of course it's a safe place to stay, that's why we are here. And you know there is already someone here to accompany us. ’

Hannah-‘Really, who? ’

Chris-‘Just some tigers, lions and other wild animals. ’

Hannah panics

John-‘Stop teasing her Chris. Hannah there is nothing like that here and I just forgot to tell you one thing. You like waterfalls there is a waterfall just a few miles from this mansion. ’

Hannah in excitement-‘Wow, really I have been longing to see a waterfall. ’

Suddenly they hear a strong manly voice-‘Welcome Sir, welcome ma'am, welcome to WoodRest Mansion.’

They all turn towards him, a tall man with blank expression was standing right by their side

Ellie-‘How do you know we are here, we didn't rang bell or call. And when did you came here nobody saw you coming’

Man-‘We have scheduled time of arrival of our guests and you all are three hours late. I was waiting for you. I came when you were busy talking. ’ he said with blank expression. 

John-‘ok, we are late because our car got flat tyre,. Anyways we are tired please show us our room and shift our luggage there too.’

Man-‘‘OK sir. Call me if you need anything.My name is Aurther and I take care of this place’

John-‘Yeah! Sure. Now hurry up I am really tired and sleepy.’

Bella-‘Me too.’

Everybody turns towards mansion to enter it, suddenly man speaks from behind. 

Man-‘ I forgot to tell you one thing. Never Ever go outside of the mansion after sunset. ’

Everybody looks towards each other. 

John-‘means.’

Man-‘You will know soon. ’

Everybody enters mansion murmering

Ellie-‘What a weirdo he is with no expression at all. ’

Hannah panicks-‘What if there is really something dangerous out there. ’

Bella-‘Stop believing him Hannah. He is just trying to scare us. ’

Chris-‘But this man looks suspicious to me. Everyone take care of your things. ’

John-‘Stop everyone, he is just an old man taking care of this mansion nothing doubtful. Now lets just get to our rooms,i am really tired. 

All girls settled in one room while boys in another room.

Scene 3 Journey Towards The Fate

Next morning everyone woke up late as they were all tired because of last night travel. They planned to have breakfast and later head towards waterfall for camping. While going towards dining room they admired the beauty of mansion which they forgot to notice at night due to long journey.

Hannah-‘Wow this place is beautiful.’

Bella-‘Yes, absolutely. This is just gorgeous like right out of the dreams.’

John-‘I already told you all will be going to like the place.’

Suddenly Chris saw some old mysterious antiques.

Chris-‘Man! Just look at those stuff. Aren't these amazing.’

Hannah-‘but for what these things are? ’

Chris-‘I don't know I saw it for the 1st time.’

John-‘These looks like old daggers and swords.’

Ellie-‘I think you are right.’

Bella-‘I wonder if anybody ever used them.’

Chris-‘Come let's check it out.’

As soon as Chris's hands reached to touch them, they hear angry voice of Aurther from behind

Aurther-‘Don't touch anything. They are not for fun. Everybody come to dining area. Your breakfast is waiting there.’

Everybody was shocked by Aurther's behavior.

Chris-‘God! That old man. There is something definitely wrong with him.’

Hannah-‘I think Chris is right. He is behaving strange last night also. I am not getting good feeling at all. Let's just go back home.’

Bella-‘Stop it Hannah. He is just taking care of his things. They are antique and valuable, also he is old. At this age people behave like this nothing else.’

Ellie-‘Bella is right Hannah. And Chris will you please stop exaggerating things. You are making Hannah panic.’

Chris-‘All right, all right. Now all of you please don't put whole blame on me. Everybody was thinking the same at some point.’

John-‘Now will you all be please shut up. Don't make fuss about everything. We are here to enjoy, not to get in to some silly cat fight.’

Bella-‘Let's forget about this and have breakfast. Common let's go.’

Hannah-‘Yeah! Right.’

Everybody is now at dining area.

Ellie-‘Wow this place is really beautiful. Look at those chandelier. It's massive.’

Hannah-‘These place is beyond beautiful. I had never expected this.’

Chris-‘Look at the dining table bro. That food is making me hungry.’

John looks towards Aurther who is just standing and observing everything.

John-‘Hey! Aurther.’

Aurther-‘Yes, sir.’

John-‘who made this all. I mean I just didn't saw anybody else beside you.’

Aurther-‘I made this all. I take care of everything here.’

Bella-‘Really, Oh! Wow, multi tasker Aurther.’

Hannah-‘Thanks for the delicious breakfast Aurther.’

Aurther-‘Thanks ma'am.’

Aurther again got busy in his work

Chris-‘Hurry up ladies, we have to go and see waterfall.’

Aurther-‘Waterfall?’

John looking towards Aurther-‘Yes, Why?’

Aurther in confusion-‘Nothing.’

Bella interrupting-‘Let's do all the talking later. Now common hurry up, let's go without wasting time.’

Everyone started to leave off for waterfall

Aurther still busy with his work-‘Don't go into the forest near waterfall. And return before sunset.’

Everyone started looking towards Aurther.

John-‘Why?’

Aurther now looking and moving towards John-‘It's dangerous to be out there after dark.’

Now Aurther is very close to John's face.

John got a little bit startled and step back from him.

John-‘Why? What's out there.’

Aurther turned is back towards him-‘Nothing, just remember what I said or you all will be in grave danger.’

Everyone starts looking each others face. Suddenly Chris starts laughing.

Chris-‘Great, And what's that thing wild animal or may be an Ice-age dinosaur. T-Rex GRRR-ROAR. Common everyone let's go he is talking this shit since we have arrived here. There is nothing to be worried about.’

Aurther looks angrily towards Chris, noded his head and turns away.

Everybody left for waterfall visit. They carried everything they needed for camping.

       ****************

Scene 4 Waterfall

Now they were all walking to the waterfall passing from the narrow lane that's at the back of mansion. Everyone was admiring the beauty of nature.

Bella-‘This place is so peaceful. Away from loud and noisy life of city.’ and takes a deep breath.

Ellie-‘OMG! Look at those beautiful birds.’

Hannah-‘Awww, those are so cute. I wish I could live here forever.’

Chris sarcastically-‘Aren't you afraid anymore baby doll’, and wink.

Hannah again got little discomfortable.Bella and Ellie notices it.

Bella angrily-‘Aggh! Not again Chris. Stop torching her.’

Chris-‘Stop interfering in everything Miss.Saint.I was just having a little fun.’

Bella-‘Little fun, is making someone frightened fun to you.’

Realising the situation John intervened-‘Just stop you fight buddies, we are here to refresh our mood. Anyway ain't nobody gonna say thanks to me for this trip.’

Ellie-‘You deserve that thanks buddy. Anyway how you got to know about this place?’

John-‘Oh! Through magic baby, magic.’

Everyone starts staring John

John-‘Ok....Ok....Alright, I just heard some random person talking about this place on phone few days back. May be he was planning some trip.

They kept walking while the entire conversation. Suddenly Hannah screamed in excitement-‘LOOK.’

That's when everybody else noticed they have reached the waterfall. Everybody was in awe of the view.

Ellie-‘That's mesmerizing.’

Chris-‘Let's search a nice location to set our tent.’

Bella-‘see there, there is flat land at the bank of river.’

John-‘Good catch Bella, view will also be awesome from there. Now common get to work everybody.’

With little bit struggle everybody was successful in fastening the tent.

Chris-‘All set. Now what's next ?’

Hannah happily-‘Swimming.’

Ellie-‘Oh... Yes... Yes, let's go.’

Everybody was enjoying the day swimming, singing. They almost forgot to notice the time.

Suddenly Hannah remembered about the warning of Aurther and brought it to the attention of everybody else

Scared Hannah-‘Aurther told us to return before sunset. He said it's dangerous to be out here at night. Let's go back’

John-‘There is nothing like that Hannah. We are here for the whole day , did you noticed anything unusual.’

Hannah-‘No...., but...!!!

Chris-‘There is nothing here Hannah. That's creepy old man was just trying to get on our nerves.’

Ellie-‘I think they are right Hannah.’

Chris interrupting-‘And I think we should stay here for the night. This way we will enjoy the night and Hannah's doubt will be cleared. What say?’

Hannah in tension-‘What if there is really something in woods?’

Bella-‘There is nothing Hannah, And why are you scared, you are not alone we are here with you.’

Chris-‘So it's done we are staying here tonight.’

Everybody nodded in yes.

It's almost getting dark so they lit the camp fire. Till the end of the day they were hungry, so they set the food on the mattress they brought with them. After dinner everybody was busy in chit chat when Ellie suggested

Ellie-‘Let's play game.’

Chris-‘Good idea but which game.’

Bella-‘How about playing Truth Or Dare.’

John-‘Good idea, I am bringing the bottle.’

John went in to the tent and came back with the bottle.

John-‘Let's start.’

Scene 5 First Encounter With Nightmare

John spins the bottle and bottle stops facing Bella.

John-‘Truth or Dare’

Bella-‘Dare’

Chris teasingly-‘Bella, The Daredevil’

Bella gave a pissed off look to Chris. Chris realises and stops

Ellie almost jumping-‘I will... I will give Bella dare.’

John in a dramatic tone-‘O.K....!!!! Your highness, just command your servant.’

Bella thinks for a moment and then told Bella to take a dip in river.’

Bella-‘Oh no... No... No, it's freezing cold out here. I will catch cold.’

John-‘Point.’

Chris teasingly-‘What happened Miss.Daredevil. Got scared.’

Bella annoyingly looks to Chris and starts walking towards river.

Meanwhile John to Chris-‘Stop teasing her Chris, it's not going well with her.’

John with sarcastic smile-‘That's what I want, to annoy her.’ and winks.

John-‘You are impossible Chris.’

Bella reached to the river. River was all dark and frightening at night. Bella was scared but she didn't show because she know Chris will get a point to tease her for rest of her life.’She stops at the bank and looks backward once. Everyone was one looking at her and Chris as expected have sarcastic smile on his face waiting for her to fail.

Bella keeping her calm and composed puts her first step inside water and slowly went to the shallow part with enough water to dive. She turned back and looked straight in Chris's eyes and dived.

Bella was still standing in water, cold and shaking.

John-‘Oh no....it's not good man, she is all cold.’

Ellie-‘My mistake, I shouldn't have given that dare.’

Hannah in loud voice to Bella-‘Bella come out of water.’ And to others-‘I am going to get a blanket for her.’

John-‘That will be good Hannah.’

Chris-‘I am feeling really guilty now. I provoked her. ’

John-‘Yes and you must say sorry to her. ’

Chris-‘You are right bro.’

Bella was walking out of water when she suddenly felt that something around her leg. She thought it may be some plant water due to feel of the branched and leaves on her leg and continued to walk.

Hannah in the mean time brought a towel and blanket and started going towards Bella, so that she could handle it to her as soon as she gets out of water.

Bella suddenly realized that the thing around her leg started to firm it's grip around her leg. Bella screamed and tried to ran out of water when a long monstrous branch wrapped around her and hang her out water in air.

Hannah screamed and ran back.

Bella screaming-‘Help.... Help... Help me someone.’

Ellie-‘Jesus, what's that.’

That branch was tightening it's grip all over Bella's body and finally on her neck almost suffocating her.

John and Chris grabbed the burning wood from camp fire and ran to save Bella.

As they tried to reach near Bella another branch emerged from water and hit them hard. Both Fell away from water.

Hannah was now holding Ellie in fear while Bella was unconscious and no more screaming.

Chris and John again got up and ran towards water to save Bella.

They were about to reach her when another long monstrous branch emerged from water and pierced Bella's heart and dragged her inside water. Now all that's left behind was pool of blood. Everyone was frozen to death and nobody dared to move for few seconds.

Scene 6 No Where To Go

There was fear of everybody's face. Nobody has anything say. Suddenly the silence breaks, Hannah was crying due fear and loosing Bella.

Hannah in fear-‘Aurther was right this place is dangerous. He told us to return before dark but we... We didn't listened. Now see what happened. We...we lost Bella....We lost Bella.’ and again starts crying.

Ellie in fear and pain-‘It's my all my mistake. I shouldn't have given that dare to Bella.’

Chris interrupted in agony-‘It is me who is to be blamed, I provoked her.’ and palmed his hands.

John-‘If anybody is to be blamed that's me, I brought you all here without knowing what's lying deep in here.’

Hannah who was lost in deep thought suddenly startled by the voice of Ellie.

Ellie-‘Hannah, what are you thinking?

Hannah still lost-‘Aurther told us not to go in the woods. If something can happen near it than what will be lying inside it! Let's go back. Please...!!! ’ Hannah again breaks down and starts crying.

John looks toward forest and hurried up-‘Common pack your stuff, we are leaving right now.’

They packed all there important stuff and left rest behind.

They followed back the route that they took to reach this place. After walking few miles they realized that there is no road. Road that lead them to this place was disappeared, now they are deep in the woods nowhere to go.

Hannah panics-‘We all going to die in here. We are trapped. I wish I would have never came to this place.’

John consoling Hannah-‘Just relax Hannah, till we are here nothing is going to happen to you. I promise.’

Hannah hugged John and buried her head in his chest.Chris and Ellie joined and hugged them from back.

Scene 7 Night Of Terror

Suddenly John hears a sound that was coming from bushes behind him.

John in low voice-‘Everybody keep quite.’

Everybody is quite and alert now.

John moves slowly and follows the sound but Hannah holds his hand from behind. There was a terror on her face.

Hannah-‘John no....!!! ’

John-‘It's OK Hannah. I will be fine.’ and again starts moving towards the sound.

Suddenly something jumps out of the bushes. Everyone was jump scared and suddenly calm down.

Ellie-‘Oh Jesus...!!! I was scared to death. Thank God it's just a bunny.’

But wait what's that, something grabs Ellie's leg from behind and starts dragging her in to the woods. It's again a monstrous branch.

Hannah starts screaming. Chris and John ran to save Ellie.

John-‘Hold on Ellie. We are here, we will save you.’

Suddenly Chris tooks out a long knife.

John-‘From where you got that.’

Chris-‘It was in the tent. May be one of the girls brought it to cut fruits or something.’

As Chris hits the branch with knife there was a loud roar and to their shock ground starts shaking something was coming out of it.

John-‘Now what is this shit?’

Chris- ‘Jesus...!!! Now what else we are going to see.’

Hannah screams from a distance-‘ROOTS..... They are roots coming out of the ground.’

And suddenly something appears out of the dark. And nobody believed to their eyes after seeing that.

John-‘It's a monstrous tree!’

Chris murmured-‘And those are not roots,they are legs. Oh Lord.....We are so dead.’

That tree came closer to their face and screamed loudly. Chris and John were thrown away with a hard blow of wind. Ellie was still in its grip.

John and Chris were hurt but managed to get up. Terrified Hannah was hiding behind the bushes. Ellie was continuously screaming and desperately trying to get out of the monsters grip.

John-‘We can not win this way. We have to distract it.’

Chris-‘But how? We even don't know how many more are there in this forest.’

Ellie crying-‘Please help.... Please save me... I don't wanna die. Oh God... Please help... Please. ’

Hannah murmuring to herself-‘This... This forest is alive. We all gonna die. Nobody will be left.’ and starts crying.

John-‘Ellie is still with him. What should we do now’

Chris-‘OK listen, I am distracting that thing and you try to save Ellie.’

John-‘This could be dangerous.’

Chris-‘we have no other option.’

And without wasting a minute Chris was in front of monster provoking it.

Chris-‘Hey you.... Yes you big guy, I am talking to you. Catch me if you can.’ and starts running in the other direction

Monster moves it massive body towards Chris. Earth was trembling with it's each step.

John took advantage of situation and climbed up on monster. Without wasting time John pierce the knife in to the branch holding Ellie. Monsters screamed and threw him on the ground. John hits the ground and blackout for a minute. Then it hit the Chris with one of it's branch. Chris was thrown away in a blow.

Ellie was still in its grip. John again stood up and ran to save Ellie. But to their shock angry monster was roaring loudly and in a second tore Ellie in to two pieces. Monster was still holding Ellie's body in the air and her organs with blood were falling on the ground

Everyone was terrified with the view and Hannah, who was hiding in the bush started screaming.

Monster who didn't noticed her till now turns and starts moving towards her.

John-‘Hannah run.’

Hannah came back to her conscious and starts running.

Chris and John followed her. Monster too was behind them , it's eyes were lit red in anger.

Chris-‘we can not get away like this, it's too fast. We have to think something else.’

John-‘I think we must split. This would confuse it.’

Chris -‘I think you are right.’

John- ‘You and Hannah just take that way and I am distracting him to this way.’

Hannah- ‘No, John it will kill you. We must stick together.’

John-‘It's better that only one person die than all. Don't worry about me, just go.’

Hannah-‘No, John please.’

John-‘Hannah don't be stupid,this is the only way. Chris just take her.’

Chris nodded in yes. He then helds Hannah's hand firmly and with heavy heart tooks right turn. While John provoked the monster and made it follow him.

Hannah- ‘Hope John is fine. Jesus please save us.’

Chris-‘Believe me he will be fine. He is not that easy to get.’

They were running fanatically.

But to their wonder, they were now again together.

John hits a stone angrily-‘Damn this place, it's a maze.’

Suddenly they hear a roar from a distance. 

Chris-‘Oh no... It's here we are trapped.’

Now they were again face to face with terror.

John-‘We have nowhere to go, we are trapped. Now only one option is left either fight or die.’

Chris-‘But we don't even know what its weakness is. It's bloody branches, leaves and roots. How will we kill it.’

John-‘I don't know but we have to fight.’

Hannah first time showing courage-‘I think John is right we have to fight if we have to survive.’

Chris-‘Ok... then what's the plan.’

John-‘Nothing just grab the strongest and sharpest wood from around, and attack it from different directions.’

Chris-‘Ok... got it. Now common fast find something before that thing find us.’

Now everyone was equipped, alert and ready. And in the very next moment they were again face to face with their nightmare.

Scene 8 End Of Terror

Now what's in everyone's mind was do or die.

They splitted in different direction and started attacking monster. This left monster annoyed and rageous. It was roaring and attacking back.

Suddenly monster hit hard to Hannah and throw it away to a distance, which left Hannah unconscious.

Now it was just Chris and John.They were continuously fighting to survive

Chris hitsthe monster hard-‘Take this you pesky monster. You are not gonna win so easily.’

Monster roars in pain and grabs him tight. Now Chris was in air. Chris closed it's eyes as monster moves it's another monstrous branch to almost stab Chris to death. But to his surprise John stabs it's monstrous branch. Now monster loosened it's grip due to sharp pain and Chris fell down.

Chris taking the advantage of situation pokes one sharp wood in monster's eyes- ‘‘This is for Bella and Ellie you monster. This is for taking them away from us.’

Now monster was in sharp pain and full of anger. It was roaring and moving it's limb fanatically. In anger it moved it's monstrous branch to stab Chris. But John came in between and took the attack himself. Chris ran to save him but got hit in between and thrown away.

Now Hannah gained consciousness and saw john. John was still alive and struggling to get up

Hannah screams-‘John...!!! ’ and ran towards him.

Hannah was now holding John-‘Oh My God...!!! John don't worry everything will be fine. We will not anything happen to you. Just don't give up.’

John breathless and in pain-‘It's O.K Hannah. That's the destiny. It was meant to be this way.’

Suddenly monster again turn towards them and try to kill them but Chris hit it in between. Now monster was again roaring in pain.

For their surprise someone appeared from nowhere. It was Aurther.

Aurther-‘Chris take this.’ and threw a dagger towards him.

Now everyone was looking towards him in shock.

Chris in shock-‘Aurther, what are you doing here? How did you find us? ’

Aurther-‘We can talk about this later. Now pick up that dagger and aim for it's heart. Common fast.’

Aurther distracted the monster, which now turned towards him to attack. But before it could do so Chris stabbed the dagger in to it's heart.

Monster was now screaming in extreme pain and suddenly it's whole body catches fire and turns in to ashes. Everyone was shocked to see that. 

      *****************

Scene 9 A New Morning

Chris and Aurther reached to injured John. Hannah was still holding him and trying stop bleeding. Chris and Aurther tried to pick him up.

John-‘No Chris, my life have came to it's end.’

Chris-‘No John we will not let you die. Common Aurther help let us take him for treatment.’

John stopping them-‘No Chris that will be a waste. I don't have much time left. And you know what I don't regret anything now, at least I am not dying like a coward. And best part is I fought a moster’.Then he smirked and closed his eyes forever.

All three lowered their head and cry. They bury him there with full rituals to pay respect.

Suddenly they feel the first ray of sun on their face. All the dark mist have gone. They didn't said a word to each other and silently return to the mansion.

Chris and Hannah loaded their stuff back in car.

Chris-‘Thanks for helping Aurther. Our whole life we will be greatful to you.’

Aurther-‘No, thanks to you. You lifted the curse from this forest.’

Chris with a faint smile bid adieu Aurther

Chris and Hannah together-‘Goodbye Aurther.’

Aurther-‘Goodbye sir, Goodbye ma'am. Hope to see you again sometime.’
