When you come into your own

So many of us care too much, we grew up worrying about what others thought. We were pleasers and had to make sure everyone liked us. We cut ourselves short to give to others, we cared so much about what others said about us that we stunted our own growth. We held on to this belief for years even though it was killing us, trying to do it all, be all that others wanted.

But there comes a point when you're done, when you no longer care what anyone thinks or says about you. When you don't care if everyone likes you, or if you're everyone's cup of tea because let's be honest coffee is way better.

It's amazing how much freer you feel when you let others' expectations of you go. Here's the thing I've learned: you have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. That perfect family may be a dysfunctional mess, that beautiful put together women may be crying herself to sleep at night. That amazing couple, he may be beating her ass night after night. Remember not all is what it seems...now if you knew that would you care what they thought?

How about the church people who got prostitutes on my side, got caught stealing or cheating, if you knew would you care about what they said about you anymore? Of course not, because they are in no position to throw stones at you or anyone else.

So then why do we care so much? Do you know how many times I've heard I'm a hypocrite, that I'm not holy enough, just because I go to church doesn't make me perfect, it doesn't make me without sin. I always say the same thing, I am human. Yes, I go to church and I believe but I'm not perfect and I refuse to pretend that I am. I am done worrying about what others think of me because I have always danced to the beat of my own drummer and I will continue to do so.

So today my friends remember, it doesn't matter what anyone says, it doesn't matter if everyone likes you...hell, most people don't like themselves. So be true to yourself, do you boo and if they like you great, if not walk away with your head held high, knowing you'll be okay. Knowing you are exactly who God made you, perfect in every way. That is when you'll know you've come into your own.
