Brother's Best Friend (Chapter-15)

Three years later. 

I was chewing half my hand off, waiting at the station for mum. I didn't want to be at home in Brighton but I didn't have much choice. Now that I had finally got my degree I needed a job and I could no longer stay in student accommodation. Bristol was nearly as expensive as Brighton and I missed the beach everyday for three years. I hadn't been home since the day I left, refusing to. Mum always came to me and I didn't have any friends at home. I changed my number the day I left, deleting all contact with Kane, Luke and Alice. I needed a fresh start and was slightly aggravated that it felt like I was pushed into the past. My mum often spoke about what Kane and Luke were up to. Kane finished his degree, starting a job as a physiotherapist. To my knowledge he and Alice were still together. I never asked about Luke, I didn't want to hear it. He was the most beautiful man I had ever met and I knew someone had got their claws into him as soon as they could. I looked up at mum's car, her hand on the horn. I rolled my eyes, dragging my suitcase behind me. 

"Ahhh! It's my law graduate!" Mum shouted, falling out of the car. 

"Hey mum," I laughed, putting my suitcase in the boot. She grabbed me, throwing me left and right as she cuddled me. 

"Let's get you home!" She smiled, opening the door for me. 

"Thanks," I whispered, getting in. I knew Kane had moved out, him and Alice getting a small place as per mum's updates. 

"Dinner? I can pick up mcdonalds on the way?" She asked me and I nodded, I was fucking starving and shattered. I had slept shit last night, my anxiety in overdrive. 

"Yeah please." I grinned at her, putting my head back on the chair. 

We walked into the silent house, mum dropping my suitcase at the bottom of the stairs. We ate in the car, I couldn't wait much longer and mum turned to me. 

"Are you tired?" She asked.

"Exhausted." I smiled weakly. 

"Your bedroom is still the same, sleep and we can go out tomorrow if you want?"

"Perfect, thanks mum." I dragged my suitcase up the stairs. I opened my bedroom door, the familiar smell of my perfume el

oping me. It really was exactly the same and I chuckled as I sat down on the bed. My eyes went to my pillow and I grabbed the piece of paper with my name on it. My stomach turned as I looked at the hand writing. It wasn't mums and I opened it up, my heart in my throat. 

Kat,

I've wanted to talk to you for three years and I understand why you refused to talk to me. I'm sorry, I was a dick and I hurt you. 

I really hope your mum didn't throw this away and I'm sorry I sneaked into your room. Please talk to me. 

Luke 

My bottom lip trembled as I reread the letter, my eyes going fuzzy. I suddenly giggled, wiping my face. It was such a sweet Luke thing to do and I looked up at mum's head in my door.

"He is a cutie isn't he?" She asked, chuckling.

"You knew he did this?" I asked, my voice a mess. 

"He came by yesterday, wanted to leave a gift here. I couldn't help myself. I read it, I'm sorry." She looked serious and I waved my hand in front of my face. 

"It's fine, but yeah it's typical Luke." I smiled up at her. 

"Good, he is coming for lunch tomorrow." She grinned at me as I let out a huff. "Just him! Just Luke. No Kane. I promise." I nodded at her words, making me feel better. 

"Okay," I whispered.

"How are you feeling about that?" She asked. I shrugged, I didn't actually know. 

"I want to see him. I think." I shrugged again. "Did he tell Kane?" I asked.

"Not to my knowledge but he wasn't sure how you were going to be. I think it will be different this time baby love." She smiled and I wiped my face again. 

"I hope so," I breathed out, putting the letter to the side. 

"Night," she whispered.

"Night mum and thanks, for being amazing." She really was the best mum in the whole fucking world. 

"For my soon to be solicitor, anytime." She shut the door and I laughed, laying down on my familiar bed. I had missed Luke like crazy and nearly folded multiple times. I hadn't been with anyone since him, telling any man that approached me at university I was taken. A bit embarrassing but I didn't want anyone else. I just wanted Luke.
