What You Are To Me

I have very vivid memories of my sister... 

Almost as if she's reliving her life in my head with the video tape on repeat... 

Every word, every action being played again and again for the last 10 years and counting... 

To her friends, she was a companion who cared and was always there... 

To the weak, she was the symbol of strength and the undying spirit... 

To the poor kids in Inderpuri, she was the dinner bell...

To the lepers in Leper Colony, she was Tanya ma'am the maths teacher.. 

To her fiance, she was the loving wife, always ready before he was... 

To her office colleagues, she was the hero, standing up the hierarchy and office politics like an uncrowned queen...

But there was something special between me and my sister....

To me she was a kiss on my forhead...

A love unheard of from my real parents.

To me, she was my paracetamol tablet, who held me firm in her embrace until the fever went away... 

To me she was my handkerchief, wiping away the food and wine stains from my face... 

To me she was freedom, to be who I was without constraint... 

To me she was my pillow, to soak in all the tears after a bad day... 

She made breakfast and dropped me to College; never late to pick me up again... 

She tucked me in bed and lay by my side... 

Never once letting me feel alone... 

I didn't ask what she found in me, to be deserving of being her brother... 

But she was and is and forever will be... To me, my mother...

Always and forever...
