The Shortest Date
The Shortest Date
My heart wrenched
Yet I wore
A superfluous smile
And bid him goodbye.
We exchanged
Few silent unspoken words-
I swallowed a few,
Concealed a little,
I choked, I muted
When we hugged
And held our hands
Skeptical of meeting again.
On that fervent moment
I promised myself
I shan't cry.
We spoke about the
Heavy traffic
To the fantastic music
And all other shit
But not once about
Our pensive mood,
The running time
The short distance
The warm hug
The delicate touch
The gripping clasp
And the sweet request.
I did not realize
Our first proximity
Possibly,
Was the last one too.
So terribly
I wanted
So much to say
But we didn't speak
So formal yet so free
We were then
Just you and me.
The short distance
Becoming shorter
And the destination
Coming closer.
How I wanted
The time to stop
The route to get diverted
The distance to grow longer manifold.
That shortest period
Of togetherness
I shall never give way
Nor trade it
With any treasure
In the world.
That sweetness of the oranges
That fed the hunger
Of many decades
The moment of difficulty and awkwardness
To keep moving
At the opposite directions
When several peering eyes
Unquestionably
Must have felt
The fondness, passion, craving, love,
Closeness
Warmth and adoration
That shall linger
In our minds forever
Till we meet again.
But this time
At your endeavor
Maybe sooner or later.
Till eternity I can wait
It's etched in my heart
The shortest, pleasantest, loveliest date.
