The Little Mermaid Cries
The Little Mermaid Cries

THE LITTLE MERMAID CRIES
The little mermaid sighs
The little mermaid cries
Huge pearly tear drops
Welling in her starry green eyes
Rubbed away with hankies
As big as sailing boats
Or open blue skies
Eyes swelling up like soft sponges with salty water
By rising and ebbing tides
Voice breaking like silver waves clashing in ripples along the shore
She cried!
Is it because she lost her mellifluous voice
Is it for she had no choice
For she could not sing
Her ageless lullabies
For her two tails turned legs
All for the handsome Prince she wept
Or is it because she lost her rings
Or golden moons on silver scales of her tails
Or because sting ray stings
Cold that snaps driftwood sails
Winter that froze ice to sleet
Showering icicles, snowflakes and hailstones
To chill the bone in her spine
And snap her heart with a snap of fingers
Or because Fishermen boats seemed so very distant
And fishes of sea turned to ice statue figurines
Because shimmers soon fade away
Upon coral reef mirrors so fragile and frail
Or lullabies so sad
Oil spills very bad
Waste and pollution that bounce back
Nets that entangle fish tails
Or salt that distorts her vision
By her fishy tears
For she couldn't see the Prince marry her ally
The earthy girl
Is it for blue whale was caught
Or battles of sea she never fought
Or lessons she was taught
To never trust humans
Or because she spied
Such a lovely big ship go by
nter;">That was wrecked at sea
Or because Prince she saved from drowning
Was no merman try as hard as could be?
Is it because loot she found
The many treasures and coins
In tarnished trunks
Full of sea weed moss and marine lichen
Her wishes could not buy
The happiness she dreamt of
With stripling Prince of castle in vain!
Or because sea witch
Stole her nectar sweet voice
She could not sing sweet lullabies
All she turned was a forsaken human
Or because the other mermaids
With a dagger sharp
Told her to kill the Prince
For he would marry the earthy girl
Instead of her
Which she stoutly refused though
Or because stars in the sky
Foretold her fate
In her little crystal ball of luck and fortune
To return back to the ocean
Once again a little mermaid
Shy and wistful as can be
The mermaid turned again into a frozen statue
Melancholy and sombre
Made of ivory or alabaster
Sat she did upon an ocean rock
Where she could see both land and ocean
Forever and ever
The sad mermaid cried
She sighed
Wept tears as huge as oyster pearls
Rubbed away with hankies
As big as sailing boats
Or open blue skies
Eyes swelling like soft sponges with salt water by rising and ebbing tides
Voice breaking like silver waves clashing in ripples along the shore
Messages and tunes she sent
Humming through ocean conch shells
Her mobile phone of the sea
The little mermaid sighs
The little mermaid cries!
