The Child In You

The Child In You

There was once a child,

Happy, innocent, always beguiled,

Mouldable like clay.

And Life? Was just to play.

Although.. he did have hills to reach,

You know..of the sands at the beach!

Being happy was no big deal,

Smile and just squeal.

A candy pop or a crayon stick,

Would do the trick.

Then the child grew up,

Life got tough & not so kind,

Stress, reason & all that chime,

Being happy was a big deal,

Candy won't do the trick anymore,

Sigh..so much for the zeal.

One fine day,

When driving through the mundane,

Tiny hands banged on the window pane,

It was a kid selling trinkets.

He didn't buy, but that kid jumped back,

Playfully to join his small kiddo pack.

They were happy, just like that..

Why? He mused.

As he felt a bout of unease.

Someone somewhere was amiss...

Where was 'he'?

Who could smile for no reason,

And always have the happy on.

Who would see a puddle,

And jump right in the muddle.

Who would hear a song,

And dance it all along.

He was missing.. the child in him,

Lost on the way to growing up.

He would bring him back,

Be the child once he was,

Wear that smile, just Like that.

The simple joys and a little fun,

A swing, a prank, a crayon.

Some lollipops, some marbles, some clay,

Life can always have some child's play :).
