One Face My Flower

One Face My Flower

Be more than a flower to me, can you?

Take me beyond what others may see as they approach.

Allow me to admire you in ways not meant for most,

As you turn your face and follow the sun remember to look my way.

Some beauty is often impossible to see, teach me;

Show me the real you past the maze of pedals,

That obscure the view, kept secret and out of plain sight.

The walls of petals designed to disguise and protect,

Demand and direct, the way you want others to look at you,

And what you present, on purpose I suspect.

There can be deception in your clear intention,

Presentation created to nurture may not offer,

The brightest future layered by walls of warm welcome to some.

Create deadly deception to anyone not deemed right,

Your gifts taken by wings on the breeze of natures kiss,

And transported farther that your roots force you to exist.

Turn your face my way so I can finally see,

The mystery hidden, the complexity,

The real view of who you are and not required to be.

Teach me that face to face is not the only way to know you,

The view is different from the side,

But still the real you as I live so far below you.

Don't rage against my kiss,

I hide from others jealous fist,

I come to you not quite complete, I stand in your shadow;

Regardless of fear I know no retreat.

How fragile can it all really be,

Without wings like the others I am forever bound;

To live my own way and that I can’t change,

But my tireless efforts increase where I range.

So much at stake, so much to lose,

Unlike others that need you I compete I choose,

Never ending pursuit is by choice,

I have so much to offer and will shout with my voice.

Win or lose, I decide to take what will come,

Walk, run, die or crawl;

I have no wings until you grant me some.
