Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
A chubby gurgling baby on the afternoon of 23rd January was born,
A shimmering shining diamond, who with pride India would adorn;
A heaven-sent gift was the ninth child of Prabhavati and Janakinath
A flashing, blazing meteor to inspire the Indians on the right path!
In Cuttack Orissa, he brimmed over with high spirits in his school days,
He proved his scintillating genius, brilliance and excellence in many ways
In the Matriculation examination, he was awarded the envious second position
With ease, he even passed the prestigious Indian Civil Service Examination.
A Firebrand from birth Subhas was consumed with nationalistic fervour,
An anti-Indian comment from Oaten inflamed the youngster with anger.
For assaulting the said Professor, from Presidency College he was expelled.
Graduating from Scottish Church College, in Philosophy, he as usual excelled.
He came back to India-- such was his patriotism that he resigned from the ICS post
He joined the Revolutionaries, as to fight the British--- India needed him the most,
“Only on the soil of sacrifice and suffering can we raise the national edifice”,--he said,
With an indomitable fervour, his passionate message for resistance he then spread.
Subhas introduced the University Military Corps or NCC, and Nursing Brotherhood.
He was the editor of CR Das’ ‘Forward’ which for nationalistic propaganda stood,
He started the national newspaper Swaraj but for revolutionary activities sent to jail
To Mandalay, he contracted tuberculosis, but his courage and resolve did not fail.
He blossomed in the hard cell, and undeterred ‘The Indian Struggle’, he started to write.
Then Rash Behari Bose asked him to organize the Indian National Army from Burma to fight.
He scoured the International horizon to garner military ammunitions and financial assistance,
It was the only possible way to achieve success against the mighty British, in their resistance.
When he said ‘give me blood and I will give you freedom,’ his men enthusiastically responded,
Defying the British, his courageous war cry ‘Delhi Chalo’, reverberated loudly and resounded.
But alas, victory was denied to the brave men, in the struggle in the year nineteen forty-three.
The year 1944 ended Subhas’ scintillating life in a devastating air crash, in Taiwan probably!
