A year of living in fear

A sense of breathlessness

A feeling of despair

Everywhere I look

I saw people seeking and fighting for air

Though the fog is lifting slowly

And clear skies return

A place for us to soar and fly

A place I call my home

Hibernation was tough

Everywhere and everything was black

The days are getting warmer

Finally at nights I can feel my breath in the air

It indeed was darkest before dawn

And the first rays of sunshine

Give me a glimmer of hope

It’s been more than a year

Of meeting my parents

And days seem to melt into another

And what never ends

Are chores and errands

I see a pile of dishes

In my sink

And clothes to wash

To Mop and sweep my house

And a never ending chaos

I can meet my family soon

Hear my friends chirp and sing

Though we haven’t migrated yet

I know those days aren’t far behind

With the sun on my back

And wind in my sails

I long to travel and seek

But for now I need to hold on

Show some restraint and care

The roads are littered with gold

The rainbow is barely visible

But, I see my child

Waking up with a smile

Comforted in our bed

And sleeping for a bit too long

Our little puppy

She prances about

Jumping and playing

And enjoying the crowd

We are all home

Safely ensconced

With our loved ones

Eating buttered toast

And pretending it to be scones

Our milestones might have been on zoom

But we are blessed that we have endured

We are all in it together

With a roof over our heads and a room

Enjoying every evening

As, if it’s a long weekend

And praying at night

Hoping this will soon end

Yes, it’s been tough

It’s always darkest before dawn

And till this is all over

Let’s enjoy this self-imposed lockdown !!
