It came with another pigeon to congratulate him. Buddy, it was the name that Ritvik gave to his pigeon. But that day, Buddy got its friend along, Ritvik called her ‘Angel’. What a coincidence, perhaps, they both had met their soulmates at the same time.

It was almost six months before, when he first met Buddy. Ritvik was on his terrace, caring for his lush green terrace garden. He was happy to see the very first bloom in his garden. That was the time, when Buddy came and was enjoying flying around the whole terrace and was trying to seek his attention. And it won the affection of Ritvik immediately. Ritvik liked it and soon they became friends.

Every day Buddy would visit Ritvik’s terrace. Realizing the need to feed it, Ritvik ensured that he always had food available for Buddy. After eating, Buddy used to enjoy the beautiful terrace garden, with small plants, but variety of flowers. Without fail, they both would spend some quality time together.

They came so close that they were able to understand each other’s feelings too. When Ritvik was happy, Pigeon looked happy too, and would show his happiness by flying here and there, enjoying food. But when Ritvik was sad, pigeon also felt sad, and would sit near him quietly.

After marriage, both Ritvik and Ridhi started feeding the pigeon couple together. That was the time of the day, which all of them enjoyed a lot. One day, Ridhi fell sick. Her temperature was not coming down, Her condition deteriorated with time. Ritvik was leaving no stone unturned to make her well. But all in vain. Though he was sad, he never missed feeding pigeons, Angel and Buddy also felt his sadness, they were missing Ridhi too. The whole month, all were sad, pigeons stopped eating much, though Ritvik was always ready with their food on time. But happiness was gone from terrace. The beautiful flowers were falling down.

That day, when the maid was cleaning the terrace, screamed suddenly. When Ritvik asked her the reason, she said “Look, some dead pigeon is lying here.”

“Oh God, how did it happen, oh my dear”, he touched his Angel with deep love and couldn’t control his tears. Seeing which the maid said, “Don’t cry, it’s a good omen. People say, if some bad energy was to come to house, and pigeon dies, that means, pigeon has taken that bad energy to itself. Now your wife will be well soon.”

“Stop this nonsense, don’t say like this. How can her death be a good omen. Someone’s death can never be good for anyone, I don’t believe in these things”. Upset, he went back.

He was not able to do any of his work, was continuously thinking about Angel and Buddy. He looked tired and worn out. Ridhi’s health didn’t show any sign of improvement and on top of that Angel’s death left him devastated.

He could not stop himself thinking, how his and Buddy’s lives were going in sync. “We both shared happy and sad moments together. When I found Ridhi, Buddy also found Angel. Now when, Angel is dead, would it happen to…? No no…. what I am thinking. Oh God! please save my Ridhi, please give my Buddy the strength to bear this loss.” He sobbed. This thought made him fall apart.

In his mind, he had developed that fear of losing Ridhi. With heavy heart, he went to the terrace and waited for Buddy. It came late that day, didn’t eat anything, just sat near Ritvik. They both then cried together for long.

Soon after that, Ridhi’s health started showing some improvements. And in a week’s time, she was almost fully recovered. After so many gloomy days, Buddy could find Ritvik and Ridhi together on terrace waiting eagerly for their friend. That day, Buddy ate properly, and was sitting on flowers and was flying here and there. Buddy tried to look happy. Seeing which, Ritvik and Ridhi also pretended to be happy. All the three were sad, they were missing their dear friend, Angel, but were trying to look happy for each other.

Next day, they waited for long, but Buddy didn’t come. It never came thereafter.

“It’s a good omen… Now your wife will be well soon.” Maid’s words were swirling around his mind. He had deep, aching love for his Buddy and he was inconsolable.
