Purpose of life

Vetri, Rafik and Benny are three high school friends who meet regularly at the river bank after school. Since they were in different sections from the same grade this is the only time where they can follow up on the gossips, the chitchat and the rumours in and around the school. Discussions about girls, boys, teachers, parents, cricket, politics, social issue etc. they left no topic untouched. Even though the boys were average in studies, they are above average when it comes to general knowledge. They behave in a childish way but have a thought process like an adult.

One day during their routine course of chitchat, they fell into the topic of religion and wars created by it. Even though each of them is from a different religion, all had the same view. All three felt that religion is for believing in God and not to hurt people preaching other religions. When a person hurts another because of religion, his entire life preaching the religion becomes useless. They felt disgusted whenever they read news of people killing others in the name of God.

This marked purpose in their lives. They promised each other that they would do anything in their power to stop these religious attacks on innocent people. They also told that they would meet 10 years from then to discuss what they implemented to stop the religious wars.

The lives of these boys changed drastically over the next 10 years. After finishing school Rafik took up computer engineering and got a job as a Cryptologist working for the government. Benny studied accountancy and became a Forensic accountant for the government. Vetri finished his teaching degree and went on to teach moral values to his students. Vetri believed that his intervention towards children’s mindset would purify the younger generation and prevent them from falling into any ill activities in future.

On the day of the meet, they all agreed to see each other at 5 pm near the river bank. Vetri reached the river bank and started to throw a stone into the river like a child. 5 pm turned to 6 pm and then to 7. There were no signs of Rafik or Benny. Their phone lines were busy. At 7:30 pm, he got a call bearing the unfortunate information that both Vetri and Rafik became the victim of a terrorist attack, yet another religious attack made by a group of hooligans. Vetri’s eyes turned light pink and were overflowing with tears. He dropped on his knees and his tears uncontrollably started flowing down his cheeks. His tears started to boil and evaporate with his immense anger towards himself. He failed in his task. He started punching the ground aimlessly.

Vetri made a fateful decision that day. He thought to himself “To eliminate all the religious war in the world, I need to eliminate the root cause for it. The main source of all the hatred created towards other religions is terrorism.”

Fast forwarding 50 years to the future

“Hence, that shall be my goal, to eliminate the source” - Wing Commander Vetrivel

Professor Albus finished reading the last sentence in one of the chapters in the history book.

...And guys that is the story of how Wing Commander Vetrivel started his dream to become an officer. Decades further from that day, he eliminated an entire group of a terrorist organisation by making himself as bait and executed a suicide fighter jet blast crash in the terrorist organisation’s base camp.
