The Precious Gift

In the outskirts of Delhi, there lived a happy family consisting of five members – the parents, two beautiful daughters and a son. The son being the youngest was quite pampered child as he was the only boy born in the last three generations. He was getting attention from all quarters. Everyone was considerate and used to fulfill even his unreasonable demands. As a result, he became a little stubborn and demanding. Everyone at home was aware of it but out of love and affection, they listened to his demands. Everyone in the neighborhood knew that he was stubborn but at the same time he was very good at academics. He won many prizes and awards. He used to participate in Olympiads and other competitions in his school and always won. He was the star student in the school and was praised by his teachers and classmates. He had a fair complexion, good features, and a stout body. He was fond of dancing and reciting Shalokas in Sanskrit.

Once his family decided to celebrate his tenth birthday on a grand scale. All his friends and relatives were invited. He was excited. He was looking handsome in a red shirt and black trousers on that day. All his friends joined together to cut the cake. They danced and enjoyed dinner. The boy named Suhail received many gifts from his friends and relatives. He was busy opening the wrappers of the gifts received by him. But his rat’s eyes were looking for something special to be gifted by his granny. And at last the time came. His granny gave him a bid carton beautifully wrapped. He immediately opened to see as to what was in it. His eyes were beaming in excitement. But as he opened the carton, all his excitement vanished. It was a small puppy in the box wagging his tale. Suhail made faces and was not at all happy to see the gift. The reason behind it was that he was expecting X Box as a gift. He did not utter a word and went to bed. The next day he found a puppy on his bed trying to wake him up. He immediately pushed him down. He hated him and never liked to play with him. One day he came to know through his friends that a Fair was to be organized in the open ground just four kilometers away from his house. It was winter and chilling winds were blowing. He took permission from his family and went alone to enjoy the fair.

He played many video games and enjoyed rides. He was so engrossed in his enjoyment that he didn’t notice that it was already dark and many people had already gone. He came out and started walking on a deserted dark road. He got scared but kept on walking. At one point he got confused as to which road he should take for going home. There was no one from whom he could ask. Suddenly he felt as if someone is pulling his trouser. He turned and was shocked to see that it was his own puppy who followed him unnoticed. At that time, he felt good as now he was not alone on the road. The puppy started running on the road and Suhail started following him. Finally, both reached back home. He took a deep sigh of relief. Soon he realized that if the puppy would have not been there, he would have been lost in the darkness. He immediately realized his mistake of not loving the puppy and picked him into his arms and hugged him tightly. The puppy also responded and started licking his face. Suhail named him Nawab and treated him like that. Both became friendly and were now inseparable. He came to understand the meaning of the precious gift. He ran towards the room of his granny and thanked her for her precious gift in the form of Nawab. This incident was the turning point in his life. Now he was a changed person without any demands. He became quite charming, caring, sympathetic towards animals and friendly. He started focusing on his studies and was taking care of Nawab. From that day onwards wherever he went, Nawab followed him.
